Biomedical Engineering (BME)

Biomedical Engineering is an upcoming field of technology characterized by considerable stress on an interdisciplinary approach. Being an integrating medium for two dynamic professions, Medicine and Engineering, this discipline cherishes the broad objective of assisting in the struggle against illness and disease by providing tools and techniques, research, diagnosis, and treatment. The branch integrates physical, chemical, mathematical and computational sciences and engineering principles to study biology, medicine, behavior, and health. Biomedical engineers apply the concepts of biology, physics as well as chemistry to develop products and devices for diagnosis and treatment. Biomedical engineers also design devices used in various medical procedures, such as the computers used to analyze blood or the laser systems used in corrective eye surgery. Biomedical Engineers specialize in a variety of functional areas, including bioinstrumentation, biomechanics, biomaterials, clinical engineering, medical imaging, and rehabilitation engineering and systems physiology.
